Frequently asked questions

What is e-Residency?
A digital ID card issued by the Estonian government to foreign entrepreneurs. It gives remote access to Estonian state services (e-Tax, e-Business Register), digital signing and OÜ management. You can operate an EU-based business from Turkey or anywhere.
Does e-Residency make me an Estonian citizen?
Absolutely not. e-Residency is purely an "e-identity" — it does NOT give the right to live, work or get a visa in Estonia. No citizenship or EU residency benefits. It exists purely to use Estonian services digitally.
How long does the application take?
The Police and Border Guard Board reviews for an average of 4–8 weeks. After approval, the card is collected at your chosen consulate/embassy in Turkey or the EU (card production itself takes 2–4 weeks). Plan for 8–12 weeks total.
What if I'm rejected?
The Estonian state fee (€100–120 application) is non-refundable. Common rejection reasons: weak motivation letter, problematic financial history, or KYC gaps. This package minimises rejection risk with a strong motivation letter.
What can I do with e-Residency without forming a company?
Open Estonian banking (Wise, LHV, Revolut Business), issue EU-based invoices, digitally sign global contracts, and later form an OÜ. Many freelancers and digital nomads apply for e-Residency only without opening a company.
